FAQ
We believe an informed client makes the best decision. If you don't find your answer here, our gemologists are a message away.
Diamonds & Quality
GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the world's foremost authority on diamonds. A GIA certificate is an independent, unbiased evaluation of your diamond's 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — performed by trained gemologists. Every diamond Elara sells carries a GIA grading report, which means the quality you're told is the quality you're getting. There is no way for a seller to grade their own stones — GIA's independence is what makes the report meaningful.
Every diamond is hand-selected by our senior gemologist before it enters our inventory. We evaluate hundreds of stones to find the ones that achieve their graded quality visually — a stone can be graded VS1 on paper but still appear less brilliant than an SI1 cut with exceptional proportions. We select stones that perform above their grade, not merely meet it.
Yes. Every diamond we sell is sourced in full compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. We go further — our primary suppliers are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council, and we can trace provenance on request for most stones. We also offer lab-grown options for clients with specific ethical preferences, disclosed transparently and priced accordingly.
Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds — only their origin differs. Natural diamonds formed over billions of years in the earth; lab-grown diamonds are produced in controlled environments over weeks. Lab-grown diamonds are typically priced 60–80% lower and are an ethical choice for clients who prioritize that consideration. We offer both, disclosed transparently, with GIA certification for all stones.
Custom Design
It begins with a consultation — you share your vision, references, and requirements, and we listen. Our artisan then produces hand-rendered sketches, refined across 1–2 rounds of revisions. Once approved, we create a wax or resin model for your review. After approval, the piece is cast, set, finished, and inspected. The full process takes 8–12 weeks depending on complexity. A 50% deposit is required to begin.
Yes. We regularly work with client-supplied stones, including heirloom diamonds, colored gemstones, and pearls. Before any work begins, our gemologist will evaluate the stones to assess suitability for the intended setting and note any existing inclusions or damage. A detailed condition report is provided so you have a clear picture of your stones before and after the work.
Custom commissions — excluding the cost of stones — begin at $2,800 for simple settings and increase with complexity, metal weight, and finishing requirements. Center stones are priced separately based on carat, cut, color, and clarity. We will provide a full detailed quote after your initial consultation, with no obligation.
Buying & Pricing
Engagement rings at Elara range from approximately $4,500 for a fine 0.5ct solitaire to $150,000+ for exceptional stones of 3ct and above. The most popular range for our clients is $8,000–$25,000 — a budget that allows for a certified 1–1.5ct diamond in a bespoke platinum setting. We are transparent about pricing and will tell you exactly where your budget places you before any commitment.
Yes. We work with a discreet financing partner offering 6-, 12-, and 24-month interest-free plans for qualified applicants. Details are discussed privately during your consultation. We do not display financing terms publicly to protect client confidentiality.
Non-customized pieces may be returned within 30 days of purchase in unworn, original condition with all documentation. A full refund is issued within 5 business days of return receipt. Custom and bespoke pieces are final sale, as they are made specifically for you. Exchanges are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Care & Repairs
Every Elara piece includes our Lifetime Care Program at no charge. This covers: professional cleaning (ultrasonic and steam), prong tightening and inspection, rhodium plating for white gold pieces, and clasp and hinge inspection. We recommend bringing your piece in annually. No appointment is required for standard cleaning — simply visit the studio during business hours.
Yes. We accept repair commissions for all fine jewelry — including antique, estate, and other-brand pieces. Our services include prong retipping, shank repair, stone replacement, rhodium plating, resizing, and clasp replacement. We will evaluate the piece and provide a written quote before any work begins. Turnaround time is typically 7–14 business days.
Appointments
Walk-ins are welcome Tuesday–Saturday for quick questions and cleaning drop-offs. For consultations — especially engagement ring or custom design appointments — we strongly recommend booking in advance. This ensures a private room, a dedicated gemologist, and adequate time to explore every option without interruption. Consultations are complimentary and carry no obligation.
Initial engagement ring or custom design consultations are typically 60–90 minutes. Stone-selection appointments, where we show you curated diamonds, run 45–60 minutes. We never rush a client — if you need more time, we schedule a follow-up. Many clients find the process enjoyable enough to visit several times before making a decision.
